愛情就像一顆檸檬樹，花香樹影迷人眼，咀嚼檸檬一口，酸嗆苦澀全來。
只有真心愛過，才能明白，那份夢幻般的憧憬、熾熱的渴望與期待
像一句詩、像一幅畫、像一首歌，那樣的令人陶醉。
也只有失去過真愛，才能體會，那份苦澀的滋味、那刻骨銘心的痛
鎖在回憶深處，有點褪色，仍在微微發光的那份不捨。
西洋老式情歌，如果用民謠風格來展現，經常都喜歡用一種傳承的歷史感來說故事
通常故事的開頭，都是有一個過來人，這個角色，通常都是有經驗的老父親。
他也都會諄諄告誡他的小男孩，愛情這東西輕易碰不得呀！它會讓你變體鱗傷
當男孩長大變成男人之後，仍然會義無反顧地，一頭栽進愛情裡，迷失了自己
失戀之後，又變成另一個有經驗的過來人，再叨叨絮絮地去告誡下一代的小男孩。
1974 年 Seals and Crofts 的《Windflowers》還有更早的《Lemon Tree》就是這樣的一首情歌
兩首歌的歌詞故事幾乎類似，都是過來人的父親告誡兒子，愛情是危險、不能輕易嘗試的
只是比喻誘人而靠不住的愛情、一個是風信子，一個是檸檬樹。1962 年的《Lemon Tree》
是 50年代美國歌手兼歌劇詞曲作家 Will Holt 作詞創作的一首民謠，曲調是根據 1937年
巴西民謠《Meulimão meu limoeiro》為基礎改編而成。

1961 年組建的民謠三重唱 Peter, Paul and Mary 剛出道的他們，立刻選歌翻唱，籌備專輯
1962 年，他們的第一張專輯，就獲得很高的評價，著名的《500 Miles》《Lemon Tree》
《Where Have All the Flowers Gone?》就一舉奪下 Billboard 連續七周第一名的好成績。
其中這首民謠《Lemon Tree》就是以輕快優美的和聲，唱出這個代代傳承的「愛情的苦澀」

這首歌曲在 1965 同一年，同時有幾位歌手及樂團，都相繼推出翻唱單曲
其中 Trini Lopez 的編曲節奏活潑，脫離民謠唱法，趨向於 60 年代的流行歌曲風格
也算是比較成功的例子，這首歌曲曾經打進 Billboard Hot 100 第二名。

另外民謠女歌手 Sandie Shaw 則是以女性的角度，做了歌詞局部的改編。
同時翻唱的歌手及樂團如此之多，可見這首歌曲在 60 年代受歌迷聽眾喜愛的程度。

情歌，都是唱給那些曾經愛過，曾經失落過
還有那些需要療癒的有情人聽的。
十首情歌有九首半，都是不完美、有缺陷的
都是一顆顆傷心苦澀的檸檬。
正因為如此，情歌才動人！
塵封的回憶中，那個情人也才楚楚動人。
